Getting started

  1. Open VoiceDesk. Its microphone icon appears in the menu bar at the top right of the screen.
  2. In Settings, click Subscribe… and choose a plan. The first week is free.
  3. When macOS asks, allow VoiceDesk to use the microphone.
  4. Hold ⌃⌥ D (Control + Option + D), speak, and let go. When the text is ready it is copied for you: click where you want it and press ⌘V.

Common questions

The shortcut does nothing, or opens another app

Another app may use the same shortcut. Choose a different one in VoiceDesk → Settings → Shortcut. Launchers such as Raycast and Alfred react to many Option-Space combinations, so avoid those.

VoiceDesk doesn’t hear me

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and make sure VoiceDesk is switched on. Then quit and reopen VoiceDesk.

I can’t see the menu bar icon

When the menu bar is full, macOS hides some icons. Hold ⌘ and drag other icons out of the menu bar, or switch off ones you don’t need in System Settings → Menu Bar. The shortcut works either way.

Why doesn’t the text appear by itself?

The App Store edition copies the finished text so you can paste it with ⌘V wherever you like. It does not type into other apps for you.

Tajik is not recognised well

Choose Тоҷикӣ under “I speak” instead of Auto. Telling VoiceDesk the language gives noticeably better results. Add names and special terms to the Glossary in Settings so they are spelled correctly.

How much can I dictate?

Each subscription includes a monthly allowance of about 300 dictations of typical length, which renews on the 1st of each month. Settings shows how much you have used. If you need more, write to us.

Restore, change or cancel a subscription

Is my speech stored?

No. Recordings and texts are processed to produce your text and are not stored by VoiceDesk. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
